Central Eurasian Studies Society

The Central Eurasian Studies Society (CASS) was formed in the winter of 2001 as a Registered Student Organization (RSO) at the University of Chicago. Our primary objective in forming CASS was to bring together a number of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and community members to promote awareness about the people, history, language and culture of Central Eurasia. CASS emphasizes both the promotion of Central Eurasian Studies in the academic community and the expansion of the community's awareness about the existence and vibrance of Central Eurasia as a major region of the world, as well as its profound historical impact. We attempt to meet our objectives by sponsoring events such as lectures, films and performances. We hope that our organization will lay the groundwork for future programs and academic endeavors in the area of Central Eurasian studies at the University of Chicago.
